Subhashish Mukherjee also known as Subhashish Mukhopadhyay is a Bengali theater and film actor. He is well known for carrying out roles as a comedian in many Bengali films and has been the people’s favourite since a very long time. Subhashish was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. He did his higher secondary education from the Scottish Church Collegiate School and pursued a degree in B.Com from Seth Anandram Jaipuria College.

Subhashish had to work in several other fields before he found his way to the cinema. He worked in a cosmetics company for a while and also in a printing press for some time. In his early life, before getting into films, Subhashish was a well-known theater actor. He got married to Ishita Mukhopadhyay in 1986. Subhashish got his big break in ‘ChotoBakulpurerJatri (1987)’ directed by Purnendu Patri. In the years that followed, he was signed up with many films, and they were the starting of Subhashish’s successful career. Some of his well-known movies are, ‘Koto Bhalobasha (1992)’, ‘Anubhav (1993)’, ‘Kaalpurush (1994)’, ‘Ujaan(1995)’, ‘NispaapAshami (1997)’. His role in the Bengali film ‘Herbert (2006)’ is one of his most well-received roles.

Although popularly recognized for his commendable comedic skills, Subhashish was once a theater actor who took on very serious roles. He started doing plays when he was in the 4th grade and by the time he was in the 6th grade, Subhashish was part of a theater group. He has also made special appearances in television and radio programmes. He appeared as Baroda in an episode of ‘ Byomkesh Story Soon >> Read More... ’ and as Jal Mohan Ganguly in the Zee Bangla TV series Detective 2015.

In 2012, Subhashish Mukherjee returned to the theater for a play scripted and directed by his wife, Ishita. The play was an adaptation of six well-known works of Rabindranath Tagore. Returning to the stage after 28 long years, Subhashish said that he had realized that the art of acting could also get blunt after a certain period and that getting back to the stage through this play was his way of putting his skills to the test again."
