Bhakti was an Indian actress to have worked in Gujarati, Marathi as well as Hindi plays, films and television shows. She was born on 10 September 1948 in the Maharashtan city of Sangli. The acting bug bit her early in childhood itself and she became a part of Sudha Karmarkar's Little Theatre for children. Next, she became an announcer on AIR followed by the newsreader for Mumbai’s Doordarshan. In the good old days of Doordarshan, Bhakti worked as the presenter for Saptahiki and also played the role of Bahinabai Choudhary in ‘Bahinabai’ (a telefilm).

The break in her career came with plays such as Ajab Nyaya Vartulacha ('Strange Justice of the Circle') and “Tee Phul Rani” (Flower Queen) (1975). In 1990, she became the proud recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, bestowed upon her by the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama of India. On 12 February 2001, at the age of sixty-two, she died in a car accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
