Roopa Ganguly or Rupa Ganguly is well known for her memorable role as Draupadi in B. R. Chopra’s ‘Mahabharat 1988 TV Series’. Roopa a.k.a Draupadi as she is known was born in Kalyani (Kolkata) on 25th November 1966. She did her schooling from Beltala Girl’s High School and obtained a bachelors degree from Jogmaya Devi College, Calcutta University.

She did a Malayalam film in the beginning of her days and shot to fame with Mahabharat in 1988 where she played the enigmatic Draupadi with such determination that till date people recognize her by that name. Roopa is a famous Bengali film actress and has done many films like - ‘Antarmahal’, ‘Yugant’, ‘Padma Nadir Majhi’, ‘Bariwali’, ‘Bidhatar Lekha’ and many more.

She has acted in Hindi films like; ‘ Barfi!’ (2012), ‘Saugandh’ (1991), ‘ Nishchaiy’ (1992), ‘ Ek Din Achanak’ (1989) to name a few. Roopa is also a famous television personality with shows like: ‘Mahabharat 1988 TV Series’, ‘ Kasturi’, ‘ Sukanya’, ‘ Karam Apnaa Apnaa’, ‘ Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo’ in her bag. She has won a National Award for best playback singer (female) for a Bengali movie-‘Abosheshey’.

The much celebrated star has had her patch of bumpiness in her personal life. Roopa married Dhrubo Mukherjee in 1992 but separated from him after 14 years of marriage. She cited his insecurity as the reason for the collapse of her marriage. Roopa found love again in her singer companion Dibyendu who is 12 years younger to her. The couple split after a couple of years. She has a son named Akash from her marriage who lives with his father in Kolkata.

Roopa created a media buzz with her appearance on the famous show ‘Sacch ka Saamna’, where she answered some very personal questions about her life and how lonely she was. She also admitted that she tried to commit suicide. She also shared her troubled relationship with her mother.

Roopa is now 48 and lives alone in Mumbai and frequently flies down to Kolkata to meet her son whose custody she didn’t demand. She has moved on and is currently working in movies and serials.

Roopa Ganguly is an Indian actress, playback singer, producer, and politician who was born on 25th November 1966. She was born in Kalyani, Kolkata, West Bengal, India and she studied in Beltala Girls' High School. She then completed her bachelor’s degree at the Jogamaya Devi College, which is a famous affiliated undergraduate women's college of the University of Calcutta.

Her debut appearance was in 1985, with a film named ‘Saaheb’ produced by Rajani Ganguly. The movie stars Anil Kapoor, Amrita Singh, etc. Her second role was played in ‘Ithile Iniyum Varu’ in 1986. However, she became really famous only after acting in the role of a heroine Draupadi in Mahabharat 1988 TV Series which was a hit television series in the country. Her fame started from this point onwards since she became very popular after playing this character in a successful manner. In the year 2007, she shifted to Mumbai where she acted in an English film which was named as ‘Bow Barracks Forever’, which was directed by Anjan Dutt. Roopa Ganguly has also been fortunate enough to win the “National Film Award” for “Best Female Playback Singer” for performing in the Bengali film named as ‘Abosheshey’. She has also been lucky enough to act opposite the super star ‘ Vishnuvardhan’ in two films which are namely ‘Inspector Dhanush’ and the other was ‘Police Mathu Dada’.
