Shreela Ghosh

Shreela Ghosh was born on 25th September 1962, in Assam, India. She began her career as a classical dancer, actress and reporter. She had done roles in various plays for Today Productions such as The Garland in 1981 and later The Edge The Edge is an informational tv show aired on the >> Read More... in 1984. She is also well renowned for her role in BBC nursing drama Angels in the year 1982. Shreela also played the role of Minnie in the ITV mini-series, The Jewel in the Crown in the year 1984 which became very popular. Also in 1990 and 1991 after receiving training from BBC news, she reported on some programmes like Midlands Today, Newsroom, Southeast Asia, and South Today and also made various discrete documentaries. Shreela had become the director of National Dance Agency, called Aditi based in Yorkshire in the year 1993. After the year 1998, she was also elected as the head of Arts for London Borough of Tower Hamlets. She married Saeed, who later had changed his name to Andrew Johnson. Shreela had joined the British Council in the year 2001.

The British Council had appointed her for the work of developing policies and strategies for the various art programmes that are held in India and across South Asia. In the year 2007, she became the Deputy Director of InIVA (The Institute of International Visual Arts). The organisation focuses on introducing the audience to various actors who come from different cultures by various mediums and methods such as education, publication, various exhibitions, etc. She is, however; most celebrated for the role of Naima Jefferey along with her husband in the year 1985 in BBC’s opera, East Enders. She also was the first programme director for Arts and Heritage at Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. Along with all her other accomplishments, she had also been elected as the director of Free Word Centre. Shreela believed that art has the power to reduce the gaps between different cultures and transform lives and bring about social change.
