When it comes to Bollywood music, Pritam Chakraborty is one of the most prominent figures in the Indian music industry. More commonly known as just “Pritam”, he is song composer, singer as well as an energetic live performer. Starting his career in 2001, his areas of excellence is a wide range of genres. From Pop to Jazz, Techno to Sufi music, Pritam is a highly capable individual.
Born in Kolkata, on 14th June, 1971, Pritam got his early music training from his father’s music school for children. His urge towards music can be seen in his early life when Pritam joined a music school after completing college. He formed two bands as a youngster, and also managed to release a cassette to his credit from the second band. He is a graduate Sound Engineer of the Film and Television Institute in Pune.
After his graduation, Pritam moved to Mumbai with a dream of joining the Bollywood music industry. While in Mumbai, he produced ad jingles for brands such as Head and Shoulders, and Emami; and also gave title tracks for Tele Serials. Pritam got his big chance at the Cinema by being hired as a composer alongside Jeet for the film “

. The film did not survive the box office, but the music was well recognized. Jeet and Pritam again displayed their talent in “
Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai
” in 2002.
Pritam soon separated his path from Jeet, and went on to chase a solo song composer. In 2004 Pritam’s song “
Machale”, from the movie “Dhoom” blew the charts. It even topped the UK Top Chart in 2004. After this, success started to follow him everywhere. Giving chart busting music in various successful movies such as “
Jab We Met
Love Aaj Kal
” “Dhoom 2” and many more; Pritam was often nominated for Best Music Director.
Pritam’s trophy cabinet is decorated with various music awards. “Dhoom” in 2005 earned him the Filmfare Best Music Director Award, and this was just the start. He continued on the win the same award for movies such as “

” in 2012 and many more. He won the IIFA Award for Best Music Director for the film “Barfi” in 2013. He has numerous titles to his name.
Beside the big screen, Pritam has appeared in Talent Shows and Reality shows quite often. He judged Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in2009, and ChhoteUstaad.
Pritam is frequently accused of plagiarizing his music from artist all around the world. His hit song “Zara Zara” from the movie “Race” suffered a lawsuit from the Taiwanese record label.
