Shankarsinh Raghuwanshi was one of the accomplished  music composers of Bollywood industry in the 1950's, 60's and early 70's. His association with Jaikishan

Dayabhai Panchal led him on the path of success. The duo

composed everlasting melodies.

Shankarsinh was born to Mr. Ram Singh on 15th of October

1922 in Telangana state. Shankar spent most of his young age

In Hyderabad city doing theater plays. He used to play the tabla

which he learned from Baba Nasir Khansahib in his early age.

Shankar was also a disciple of Legendry Shri Khawaja

Khurshid Anwar for quite a good number of years.

Shankar used to be a theater artist with Satyanarayan and

Hemawati before collaborating with Prithvi theater.

It all started in Prithvi theaters where the unforgettable

duo Shankar-Jaikishan had formed. Those were the days when

Shankar was in the starting stage of his career just similar to Jaikishan. They met in the Prithvi theaters and developed liking for each other's talent. Their meet from

that day lasted for decades.

Shankar got his first break with the movie Barsaat starring Raj

Kapoor and Nargis . Here the duo of Shankar-Jaikishen worked magic.

From then they didn't have to look back in their career.

Shankar worked on innumerable amazing hits which are evergreen even today. As they  say, awards are always

boost to artists  , Shankar also was boosted with many of

them.

He was even nominated for eleven Filmfare awards and won nine

Filmfare awards for the movies Chori-

Chori(1956), Anari (1959,Suraj (1966), Mera Naam Joker Story Soon >> Read More... (1970)

and so on. The song 'Jeena yahaan marna yahaan' is still

fresh in the minds of the audiences.

As devised in the unwritten agreement between Shankar and

Jaikishan to continue composing music even after one of them

passed away Shankar followed and took forward the legacy even after the demise of

Jaikishan in 1971.

Continuing the label for 15 more years or so the talented composer left

the world on 26th April 1987.

Shankarsinh Raghuwanshi was Awarded Padma Shri by

The government of India in 1968. The India post released a postal stamp bearing the duo's face

on it on 03rd May 2013.
