Later on, they worked along with Maruti Rao Keer, become the core of the team that took their band on top. Manohari belonged to the Nepalese family and born on 8 March 1931 in Kolkata.

His family indulged in music; his grandfather used to play the trumpet in an Army band, his father played flute, clarinet, and bagpipe. He saw music environment in his home from childhood and did not take much time to get friendly with these instruments, along with grandfather and father he continued his career in music. Earlier he used to play brass bands at Bata Shoe Company in Kolkata. The conductor of the band was impressed by Manohar; he gave him an opportunity to work in HMV. After that, he started to play Hindi and Bengali songs in HMV orchestra. He was the master in playing different instruments such as clarinet and mandolin, but mainly he is known him for saxophone.

He got credit to introduce saxophone for playing in nightclubs. He had golden plated saxophone which he loves so much and played on auspicious occasion. In 1952, Manohar’s career came to downfall, which affected him badly and he moved to Mumbai for trying his luck one more time.

After struggling he got an opportunity to work with S.D burman but he came in limelight with Kalyanji Anandji’s popular song ‘Satta Bazaar.’ After that, he worked with many music directors of the film industry such as Shankar-Jaikishan, OP Nayyar, SD Burman and so on, but contributed long time to work with R.D Burman. He was active in the Nepalese music industry and worked in so many movies like Santana, Kanya daan, etc. Manohar did work and played in several public and private concert sin his last decade of life. Though he got so much name and fame in his career he was happy and not business minded. He contributed 58 years in Bollywood and won so many awards during this journey. He was the first person of the music industry who got "Memorable Contribution to Music Award" This ceremony held on 27 March 2009 given by Tata Indicom Music Award.
