Anooj Kapoor

Anooj was a former SAB TV Channel business head. He has over 25 years of marketing, advertising, direction, copywriting, production, and television expertise under his belt. During his twenty-seven-year career, Anooj has worked with Colgate Palmolive, Rediffusion, JWT, UTV, Lowe Lintas, and SAB TV. Anooj credits his unique storytelling to his background in literature, and his business skills to his exposure to Business Management, as a double postgraduate in English Literature and Business Management.

Anooj has always been a creative thinker who has been able to effectively commercialize his ideas. Kapoor began his career as a management trainee at Colgate Palmolive. Kapoor, a literature graduate with an MBA, was caught by the copywriting urge, which led him to JWT, where he worked on copywriting before moving on to production. He joined UTV after running his own production company, Creative Compass, from 1999 to 2004. In 2007, he was offered the position of head at SAB. Kapoor had worked on various commercials and shows. Anooj began working for SAB TV in June 2007. He transformed it from a twenty-two-grp channel with an income of 38 crores to a 170-grp network with a revenue of 700 crores at one point. Anooj accomplished this feat on a shoestring budget, with just a quarter of the budgets of the major GEC channels, including Sony. Anooj transformed the network from a number nine-channel in the GEC pecking order to a consistent number three and four.

Anooj provided a stunning 65 percent return on investment and contributed 50% to the Sony Network's overall EBIT in India. SAB became the world's most popular comedy channel, outperforming Comedy Central USA in terms of both audience and income. Anooj accomplished the above by making and presenting the idea of everyday family parody with a direct storyline and situating the channel as a family amusement channel with clean family esteems, never depending on an expression of obscene humor in the 8,000 hours of satire programming that Anooj delivered. Anooj has been the only television executive to get the Scroll of Honor and the Bharat Gaurav Award from the Indian Television Academy.
