NC Sippy is a film producer and director, known for his sensitive and topical social drama films. He was born on August 22, 1926, in Karachi, Pakistan. He has produced several hit films including Anand, Guddi, Khubsoorat, Padosan, Aashirwad, Bombay to Goa, and Sadhu Aur Shaitan. In his career that spans over forty years, many of his notable films were directed by Hrishikesh Mukherji.

NC Sippy opted to be low-profile and only wishes his work to speak for him. He doesn’t usually go out, nor socialize with the media people, as he preferred to hang out with his family and friends. He even refused to attend the Filmfare Awards when he bagged the Best Film Award for the movie, Anand. Instead, he asked a family member to get the trophy for him because he was too shy to receive the award on stage. From Karachi, NC Sippy shifted to Mumbai in 1946. Comedian Gope had helped him to get work as a Production Manager. His first production film was Mahesh Kaul’s 1958 Bollywood film, Talaq.

After that, he decided to go on his own and worked in films like Bin Badal Barsaat (1963), Aashirwad (1968), and more. NC Sippy and Hrishikesh Mukherji started working together in the 1971 film, Anand. NC Sippy has also worked with actor, Mehmood, in films like Padosan (1968), Bombay to Goa (1972), and Do Phool (1973). He is also responsible for the making of Pyar Ki Pyaas, the first Hindi colored film that was shot through cinemascope. In 1982, NC Sippy had his first paralytic stroke. He recuperated but had another attack in the year 1988 that badly affects his coordination and mobility. When his wife died on December 6, 1998, NC Sippy lost his willingness to live. From then on, he stopped speaking and started to communicate by writing notes. He died on November 25, 2001, in a private hospital in Bombay. He was survived by his children, Raj NC Sippy (producer and director), Romu Sippy (producer), and Mohini N. Sippy (screenplay writer).
