Rahul Puri is a business wizard who started his education in the UK and later shifted to
New Delhi when he was ten years old. He completed his studies at the O level and the IGCSE course developed by the University of Cambridge, Department of International Examinations. He also received the scholarships from the Cambridge and was admitted to ‘A’ level from the British School.
In the year 2003, he joined Mukta Arts Limited as Vice President. During his tenure, the film company churned out 15 commercial movies like Akshay Kumar’s ‘
Aitraaz,’ ‘Kisna,’ ‘
Shaadi Se Pehle’ Shahid Kapoor’s ‘36 Chinatown,’ ‘
Apna Sapna Money Money,’ Salman Khan’s ‘
Yuvvraaj’ and even the award-winning movie ‘Iqbal.’
After the success of Taal and Yaadeiin,
Subhash Ghai occupied the chair of a producer only. It was this time that Subhash Ghai collaborated with directors like
David Dhawan, Abbas–Mustan,
Nagesh Kukunoor and made low-budget commercial movies which were different from song-dance and melodrama films.
Rahul Puri made the craft of filmmaking easier, and he won the heart of filmmaker Subhash Ghai. Rahul Puri took charge of the creative aspect of the filmmaking and soon he was instrumental in establishing the company’s film banner, named Mukta Searchlight, and he produced this banner’s first production, the critically acclaimed blockbuster ‘Iqbal,’ in 2005.
Later on, the new company was also responsible for churning out movies in other languages, and they include ‘Valu’ (Marathi), ‘Nauka Dubi’ (Bengali) and ‘
Double Di Trouble’ (Punjabi). He is now working on producing the banner’s new slate of films.
After 2009, he was promoted to the post of Executive Director and became nominated in company’s board of directors. Currently, he takes care of financing, distribution, production, exhibition, and marketing of the film from Mukta Searchlight Company.
Puri was also responsible for setting up Ghai’s Film, Television and Animation School located in Film City, Whistling Woods International (WWI). The school started functioning as of July 2006.
Puri also collaborated in setting up of WWI’s MBA in Media and Communication with the collaboration of Manipal University. Puri took care to take film space to digital communication level in Mukta Arts Company.
In 2014, he was promoted to the position of Managing Director of Mukta Arts. He got the responsibility for the overall day-to-day operations of the company and handling the companies subsidiaries. He was also involved in devising plans to make the company reach new heights. He has taken over as the Head of Academics at WWI as well.
Currently, he helped in the expansion of Mukta A2 Cinemas. Under his supervision, 17 multiplexes are functioning, and one such property is now in Bahrain. The multiplexes are getting expanded to other cities too, and they include Pune, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh. Mukta Arts currently controls 750 screens in India.
Puri is an avid reader and takes a keen interest in day-to-day politics, and loves watching big budget commercial movies. He is a sports fan and engages himself in social media too.
