In one of her interviews, she says that when she was in her teenage years, she did not like wasting her time and so she always kept herself engaged in writing short stories and essays, which would get published in a handwritten magazine.

Madhura had a very close relation with her father. Unfortunately, the well-renowned film-maker is no more in this world but it always brings tears in Madhura’s eyes talking about his father. When she was asked more on this topic in one of the interviews, she said that though he was strict, he always encouraged his children to do what they wanted to. Inspite of his busy schedule he always had time for his children and was fully involved in their upbringing. When Madhura was young,

she used to visit her father on sets and he encouraged her to engage herself in talking to various people and helping them around. She would go around serving tea to all the light men around her and learnt how to hold light on sets. This started her education in cinema. She also went to dance classes and her father would come to observe her on Sundays, and would enquire about her progress. In her childhood, Madhura was very curious. She said, “Once I visited a man who was expert in making flowers out of paper and out of curiosity I spent the whole day with that person in learning how to make those paper flowers. I was extremely happy to make four roses out of paper. The man told me to give them to my father.

Though he was delighted, he asked whether I learnt how to wrap the paper around wire that would be serving as the stem of the flower. It was a very small thing but I had not paid attention to it. So, he told me to go back to that man and learn the same. He always emphasized that if you learn something, learn it properly and thoroughly. Madhura has followed her father’s teaching her entire life. Now, at the age of 78, when others are enjoying their retired lives, Madhura is working in the Hindi cinema focusing on rape survivors. She got married to Pandit Jasraj who is a classical vocalist in March 1962 and is leading a beautiful life playing the role of a mother of her two children.
