Madhushree was born as Sujata Bhattacharya is from a family inclined towards music. She sings in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films. She has been trained in Western styles and classical music. You can find her voice in A.R Rahman’s compositions. Initially she was taught music by Sangeetacharya Pandit Amiya . Her parents were her first teacher in music. She joined the Rabindra Bharti University to complete her masters. She has also won the Filmfare Award for best Female Playback Singer-Tamil and Indian Telly award for best Title singer. She has also won 20th Edition of Lions Gold Award for All Time Film Versatile Playback Singer .

She debuted in playback singing through Moksha , directed by . recommended her for Moksha. She then sang songs in films like Aathiya Ezhuthu, Yuva, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kuch Naa Kaho, Hum Hain Is Pal Yaha, In Lamhon K Damaan me and Tu Bin Batae. The critics consider her three songs in Tehzeeb as one of her best works. If you’ve heard Kabhi Neem Neem from Yuva, you’ll never forget her voice.

She ha s sung various songs like Mohobat Zindagi Hai, Nainaa Milaike, Na Shikwa Hota, Sabaq aisa,Mujhpe Toofan, mahi Ve, Jab Dil Mile, Pal Pal Hai Bhari, jab Dil Mile, Tum Mujhe Bas, Kangna Re, Aadhi Raat, Hanste Raho, Jaana Hai JAana hai, Baazi Laga and wahji Waji. Among these Pal PAlHai Bhari is one of her best works and others are popular as well. Some of her Kannada songs are Nilavile Nilavile, Naa Kaatuka, Thai Sonna, Kaveriyaa Kaveriyaa, Sanda Kozhi Kozh, Mayilirage, Perundhil Nee Enakku, Ivanaa Yuvanaa, Yelo Yelo Kadhal Vandhal, Pani Vizhum, Thatti Thatti and many more.

She is the first person who came out with an album that fuses thumri and world music. You should surely hear her upcoming albums lagi Lagan and aaye Na Balam.
