Mauli Dave is a singer and television host who gained popularity as one of the top 7 contestants in Zee TV India’s ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge’ in the year 2007. She was born to parents Hemant Dave and Dipti Dave on 3rd June in 1987 in the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Young Mauli, when she was just about ten months old, had started to sing even before she could talk. Her grandparents both were scholars in the field of music.
In the year 1990, when she was almost three years old, her family moved to the United States and settled in Houston, Texas. In her young age, Mauli was trained in various arts including Odissi, Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam, Classical Hindustani Music, etc., all when she was still in her teens. Mauli pursued graphic designing till high school and later graduated in Graphics Communication from the University of Houston. In 2003, Mauli decided to participate in ‘Boogie Woogie Chalo America’ a television show from Sony Entertainment and was in the finals.
In the year 2007, Mauli was encouraged to take part in ‘Miss Teen India Texas’ pageant by her mother and was eventually crowned victor. Later that year, Mauli auditioned to represent the USA in Zee TV’s 2007 edition of ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge’ and was selected and was an instant hit. She was the favourite and was a youth sensation. Her elimination from the Top 7 was an unexpected event as many who watched the show would say. She was given the title of ‘Indian Shakira’ by
Bappi Lahiri, for singing her version of ‘Mayya Mayya’ the hit Bollywood song. Later in 2008, she appeared as the host of Zee TV’s newest reality show, ‘Rock-N-Roll Family’ and in the year 2010 played the lead role of ‘Divyani’ in ‘Ek Anhonee’ a television serial by Zoom TV.
She was a contestant in season four of ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ in the Colours TV in 2011. In 2010, she won the Gujarati Garvvati Awards for Best Upcoming Singer.
