Rekha Bhardwaj is a dynamic and versatile Indian playback singer who can perform in different genres like Bollywood, Sufi, Folk and Classical. She married the Indian Director, Producer and Music Director Vishal Bharadwaj. Her unique style of singing makes her stand out of the crowd. Born in a middle-class household in New Delhi, Rekha studied music at Hindu College, Delhi. She always desired to become a singer but was discouraged due to her husky voice. Rekha and her husband Vishal Bharadwaj studied in the same college. They met each other in their college annual day program. Music was common in both which created a bond between them and later they got married.

Vishal believed and convinced her to start her career in singing. Her first song was ‘Ek Who Din Bhi’ from the movie Chichi 420 in 1997. Her first album was ‘Ishqa Ishqa’ in 2002. The song that gave her immense popularity and fame was ‘Namak Ishq Ka’ from the movie Omkara that was directed by Vishal Bharadwaj. She also worked as a Music Assistant in the film Hu Tu Tu. She has sung the song ‘Kabhi Ashna Kabhi Ajnabi’ for the Pakistani serial Humnasheen and also recorded for a Pakistani picture ‘ Bin Roye.’

Some of her other famous songs are, ' Sasural Genda Phool' from the motion picture Delhi 6, ‘Raat Ke Dhai Baje’ which was picturised on Priyanka Chopra, ’ Ranjha Ranjha’ from the movie Raavan which was directed by A.R Rahman, ‘ Darling’ from Saat Khoon Maaf directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, ‘Phir Le Aaya Dil’ which was a romantic song from Barfi, ‘Kabira’ and ‘Ghagra’ which was picturised on Madhuri Dixit from Yeh Jawani Hai Dewani. She has twice been recognized as the Best Playback Singer by the Filmfare awards for the songs ‘Sasural Genda Phool’ and ‘Darling’. She has also been awarded the same by National Films Awards for the songs from the movie ‘Ishqia’.
