She has been a part of various reality shows and been a choreographer for many of Hindi movies. She had participated in the famous reality show Jhalak Dikhlaja season. She won the 5th and the 7th season of the show. Shampa was born in Mumbai. Her parents are Gopi Krishna and Savitri. Both her parents were very famous and active in the field of dancing. Her parents got married in 1954. Her mother was a Kathak dancer. Her father Gopi Krishna was a great choreographer and dancer in the classical form. He had earned the title of Nritya Samrat and Nataraj. He had broken the world record and set a new of dancing in the Kathak form for dancing 9 hours and 20 minutes continuously. He died in 1994 due to a heart attack. Shampa always was inspired by her parents and would practice the art of dancing with her parents. Like her father even she is a good Kathak dancer. Shampa participated in the 5th season of the reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. The series is a from the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing. Her pair in the series was film actor Gurmeet Choudhary. The other contestants in the show included Sanath Jayasuriya, Darsheel Safary, Archana Vijaya, Shibani Dandekar, Ravi Kishan, Jayati Bhatia, Isha Sharvani, Talat Aziz, Pratyusha Banerjee and Bharti Singh.

They both delivered some good performances of the season and were appreciated by the panel of judges.
