Shanti Sharma

Shanti Sharma was an eminent Indian vocalist who specialized in Hindustani classical music. She was born into a family that belonged to the Tanjore district. Her family was not one with a history of musicians and her father worked for the Indian army. She never planned her life along the lines of becoming a musician. Rather, she was very accomplished academically and planned to pursue a more scholarly path in life. All of her siblings also settled in the academic line. Shanti even won the National Science Talent competition. She completed her Masters in chemistry from B.I.T.s Pillani after which her mother urged her to pursue music.

After completing her education in 1978, Shanti decided to direct all her attention and effort toward music. During this turbulent time in her life, she received support from her guru Amarnathji. He worked at Bharatiya Kala Kendra and recruited Shanti as his first student. She began her memorable musical journey under the guidance of her guru and has since enthralled the world with her melodious voice. She has worked with many artists and created albums such as “contemplation” and “celebration”. Her journey is one of inspiration, passion, and dedication and has swayed the hearts of many. Shanti died on April 23rd in 2008 at the age of 52.
