Garima Arora

Garima Arora is an Indian chef. She was born on 9th November 1986. Garima, though belonging to the Punjabi Heritage, was bought up in Mumbai, India. Becoming a chef was not something that Garima always thought of. She pursued Journalism, initially. Back in the year 2008, she moved to France to study at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and graduated in 2010. Garima has worked with Gordon Ramsay Gordon Ramsay is an English writer who has worked >> Read More... and René Redzepi of Noma in Copenhagen before opening her restaurant. She opened her restaurant in April 2017, named Gaa, which is located in Bangkok.

Gaa is a three-story restaurant that celebrates a modern tasting menu using traditional Indian techniques. Garima is also the first female Indian chef to receive the distinction as in November 2018, she and her restaurant were awarded a Michelin star. In March 2019, Garima’s Restaurant ‘Gaa,’ made its debut on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list at No. 16, claiming the Highest New Entry Award. In the same year, she was also awarded as Asia's Best Female Chef for the year by World's 50 Best Restaurants.

Garima believes that it is important to prioritize the future of Indian food, and keeping that in mind, she launched Food Forward India in August 2019. The inaugural of the restaurant took place in Mumbai on 17th October 2019. Garima believes that it is important to give women all the resources and spaces to be who they are.
