Hema Diwan is a popular, talented and senior actress who has appeared in various character roles in Hindi and other regional movies and in Hindi television serials. Hema Diwan who hails from a traditional Maharashtrian family, and started off her acting career as a junior artiste manly out of the compulsion of supporting her family financially. Hema Diwan went on to appear in numerous Hindi and Marathi films in various passable character roles. However, Hema Diwan is best remembered for her character of a traditional Maharashtrian lady Ganga Bai a.k.a Ganga Mausi in Doordarshan / DD National channel’s hilarious cult comedy show . The show started airing in the year 1989 and is re telecast even today on Sab TV. The story of Shriman Shrimati revolved around the daily lives of a couple Keshav Kulkarni played by actor and Kokila Kulkarni essayed by veteran actress . Hema Diwan in this serial portrayed the role of one of Keshav and Kokila’s neighbor, an elderly funny lady Ganga Maushi, who has a bad habit of poking nose in other’s business and is disliked by Kehsav and eventually she instigates a fight between Keshav and his wife Kokila every time she visits them and leaves once the couple starts fighting. Hema Diwan was appreciated for her comic timing and acting skills in this serial by both the audiences and the critics for her portrayal of Ganga Mausi and her character still remains in the hearts of millions of audiences who are fan of Ganga Maushi and the serial Shriman Shrimati.
