Shekhar Gupta

Shekhar Gupta was born on 26 August in the year 1957. Currently, he is working in Business Standard and is an Indian journalist. He also writes weekly column named “National Interest” which is published on every Saturday. Shekhar Gupta went to Saraswati Shishu Mandir School, situated in Palwal, and completed his schooling from there only. For three years i.e. 1962-1965 he stayed there only. Saraswati Shishu Mandir is a chain of schools for juniors run by RSS across the country.

Shekhar Gupta has completed his degree of graduation from School of Communication Studies, Punjab University. He also worked as a host in the show named “Walk the Talk.” Shekhar Gupta is married to Neelam Jolly. Shekhar Gupta has a keen interest in politics and is active in social media as well.

He is a great writer and has a good work experience with some different awards in his hand. Shekhar Gupta has also been with India Today group on the post of Vice Chairman. He has worked for 19 years in Indian Express as editor-in-chief till June 2014. He wrote the weekly column named “National Interest” for India Today Magazine. He has also written a book named “Anticipating India” in 2014 and his “National Interest” columns were also present there in the book. His show named “Walk the Talk” was telecast on the channel named NDTV 24x7.

In the year 2009, he was honored for his contribution to Journalism with Padma Bhushan by the Government of India. He also received many other Awards like Inlaks in the category of Young Journalist of the year in the year 1985, for National Integration he has been awarded Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Memorial Award, and for Journalism he has been Awarded G.K Reddy Award. The Indian Express has won International Press Institute Award thrice which is a Vienna-based Award for Outstanding Journalism in the Public under his Leadership. The first time, Indian Express won this Award because they covered the whole news of Gujarat riots of 2002. The second time it was for exposing the scam of Bihar Flood Relief in 2005 and the third time for their investigation of the role of Hindu extremists and organizations in Modasa and Malegaon blasts of 2008.

Shekhar Gupta also wrote many books. Some of these are Gupta, Shekhar in the year 1984, India redefines its role in the year 1995, IISS Adelphi Paper Series 293, and Anticipating India in the year 2014.
