Satya Hegde was born on the 17th of May in the year 1975. He was born in Haliyal, Uttar Kannada, Karnataka, India. He is attached to the Kannada Film Industry. He is a cinematographer by profession. He works mainly in Kannada films. He made his debut in this Industry as a cinematographer in the year 2002 through the movie Taali Katuuva Shubhavele. He has been a cinematographer in over twenty films in his entire career. He had reached great heights of success in 2007 and 2013 when he was a part of the movies Duniya and Mayna respectively. He had received awards for these films.

His parents were Savithri and P. Hegde. His family was Brahmin. He did his schooling from Carmel High School in his hometown. His father wanted him to be a computer engineer. So he was sent to go through a computer course before he could actually take up that course in University. But unfortunately, he failed to score enough marks that would actually give him enough confidence to take up the subject. His brother gave him an advice. Listening to him he decided to do a diploma course. For diploma he chose cinematography as his main specializing subject in the Sri J. Polytechnic University located in Bangalore.

He completed his diploma in 1995. At the beginning of his career he used to assist and work with some of the most renowned and famous cinematographers of that time like B. C. Gowrishankar, P. K. H. Das, H. C. Venu, P. Rajan and much more. He was generally involved in making TV series, documentaries, short films, and daily soaps. He made his debut in Kannada Film Industry as a cinematographer and a camera operator in the year 2000 through the film Sparsha. He was also the assistant cinematographer in two more Kannada films namely H20 and Parva in the year 2002.

As an independent cinematographer he made his debut through the Kannada film Taali Kattuva Shubhavele. In 2005 he was the cinematographer of two films namely Masala and Yashwanth. These movies unfortunately, failed to move the box office as expected from them. He then moved from mainstream cinema cinematographer for a while but he returned in the year 2007 with the movie Duniya for which he received lots of critical acclamation. Then his work in Myna in 2013 also received praise. In 2014 he worked in the film named Gajakesari which was again a big success. Now he has become one of the most demanding cinematographers of Kannada.
