He composed the track for a Malayalam television serial "Annu Mazahayayirunnu" and received Kerala's Best Award for best music. He signed a contract for two Tamil movies which never released, but he didn’t lose hope and kept on working hard and got offers again. His father always motivated him to do well and said that he had the expertise and talent in music composition.

Manikanth Kadri released his first instrumental album named "Dream Journey" in the year 2001 and was a huge hit. He received his first Award in 2005 for Kerala State Television Award for Best music called "Annu Mazhayayirunnu". He made his debut at the age of 23 in the film industry in the year 2006, with a Malayalam movie called "Smart City". His next film "Mr. Garagasa", released in the year 2007 in the Kannada language. In the following year he scored songs for three movies in Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu which were "Chandranilekkoru Vazhi", Ganesha and Avakai Biryani.
