Anjali Menon is a Malayalam film director who came to limelight with films like “ Kerala Cafe’ and ‘ Ustad Hotel’. She was born in Calicut ( Kerala). She is the daughter of T. Madhavan Nair and Sarada Nair. She grew up in Dubai but had completed her post-graduate in Communication from Pune University and later even became a graduate from the London Film School in 2003 where she learned the techniques of editing, producing and directing a film. Being an alumna of the London Film School, the choice of film-making as a career was just a progression. Her completion of studies in London Film School made her attempt a film named ‘Black Nor White’ that was premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. The film was produced by Asif Kapadia and had featured Rex Kempton and Archie Panjabi.

Anjali is married to Vinod Menon and lives in Mumbai. In 2006, she also had founded a film company ‘Little Film India’ with her husband, in Mumbai. She began her career with short films and documentaries, and they were appreciated in the Middle East, the USA and Dubai. In her first film ‘’Kerala Café’’ she got to work with multiple directors like Ranjit, Revathi, Lal Jose, Shaji Kailash and others. It was a good experience for Anjali to assist in directing big stars like Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Dileep and others. This film was a teamwork of multiple directors and actors. The film had ten different cinematographers wielding a camera and told ten different stories; the film provided ample scope for each director to convey the message equally. The film received good response from critics.

In the year 2012, Anjali evolved as an independent director for a film ‘Manjadikuru’ which was produced by her husband Vinod Menon and herself. Anjali Menon wrote the story and screenplay for the film. The film received multiple awards from international film festivals, and Anjali was considered as the best debut director. The film got released after it swept many awards in the international film festival. 

Anjali’s next project was ‘Ustad Hotel’ for which she contributed as a writer. She received the best dialogue writer award in National Film Awards. In 2014, she directed ‘ Bangalore Days’ and the film was the top grossing film in Kerala in 2014. Anjali Menon wrote the story of the film, and it had Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya Nazim and Nivin Pauly in the lead roles. The film received a better response from critics, and this proved that Anjali Menon can work for both commercial and art cinema.
