Madhupal Kannambath popularly known as Madhupal is a well-known actor, director, scriptwriter and short story writer. He hails from Calicut but has spent much of his childhood in Palakkad where his father owned a movie theater. That was how he developed liking towards cinema. Before acting in films, he worked as assistant director to and Rajeev Anchal and has assisted appreciated movies like Guru, Kashmeeram, Butterflies. His acting debut began accidently in Kashmeeram in 1994 when he replaced the antagonist who did not appear for the shoot, proving his acting skills. He received critic award for the best debutant for his portrayal of a terrorist in the movie. He has appeared in more than 90 movies and played different types of character roles, positive and negative, small and lengthy before trying his skills as an independent director. Susanna, , Guru, Snehadooth, Agnisakshi, Margam are some of his movies as an actor. Apart from Malayalam he has appeared in other languages like Tamil, Hindi and English also.

He also associated with Malayalam Television and saw success as an actor and a director in the Small screen. He directed a series MT Kathakal named Kazcha for Amritha TV, and also assisted in the 13 episode serial Shararandal directed by . He directed a serial Daivathinte Swantham Devootty in Mazhavil Manorama starring as Devooty, which received the Kerala State Award for Best Serial in 2011. He has also directed documentaries for Public work Department, Water authority and Sports council.

His directorial venture Thalappavu and his second movie Ozhimuri received National and International recognition and also represented in many National and International film festivals and were honored with many Awards. Ee Jeevitham Jeevichu Theerkunnathu, Kadal oru Nadiyude Kathayanu, hebrewil oru Premalekhanam, Madhupalinte Kathakal, Facebook and Jainemettile Pashukkal are some of his distinctive short stories. Madhupal is married to Rekha Vasumathi in 1990 and has two daughters Madhavi and Meenakshi.
