Murali is a well-known Malayalam film actor who has also acted in Tamil films. Murali pocketed a National Award for playing the role of a communist freedom fighter in the 2002 movie, “Neythukaran.” Murali is considered to be one of the best actors to have blessed Malayalam cinemas and is revered for his character portrayals of playing the lead as well as the villain in his films. Murali was also the chairperson of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy. Murali was a staunch supporter of the Communist Party of India and was the director of Malayalam Communications, which was driven by the Party. Besides cinema, Murali was also a theater actor. Murali was born to Krishna Pillai and Devaki Amma in Kollam, India. Murali pursued his education at the M. G. College in Thiruvananthapuram and also obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the Devaswom Board College in Sasthamkotta, India.

Murali was also actively involved with the works of the Students Federation of India (SFI). He also pursued a Bachelor of Law Degree at the Thiruvananthapuram Law Academy. Before setting foot in cinema, Murali worked at the Kerala University as an Upper Division Clerk. The inception of Murali’s film career saw him feature in Bharath Gopi’s unreleased, “Njattadi,” in 1981. After a hiatus of 5 years, in 1986, Murali pocketed roles in the T. Hariharan-directed “ Panchagni Panchagni is a family drama tele serial in Malayal >> Read More... ,” Lenin Rajendran’s “Meenamasathile Sooryan,” G. Aravindan’s “Chidambaram,” and Vijaykrishnan’s “Nidhiyude Kadha.” The 1980s also saw Murali in Lenin Rajendran’s “Swaathy Thirunaal,” Mohan’s “Theertham,” Prathap Pothen’s “Rithubedam,” Sibi Malayil’s “Ezhuthaappurangal,” and Padmarajan’s “Nombarathippoovu,” among many others.

In 1992, the Lohithadas-written “Aadhaaram was Murali’s first film as the protagonist for which he was presented with a Kerala State Film Award for the Best Actor. Murali is also known for his roles in The Truth, The King, “Chakoram,” “Pathram,” and “Swarnam,” among many others. In 2005, Murali was cast in a television commercial for Air Deccan, which had a record run time of 150 seconds. The Malayalam actor Narendra Prasad’s drama venture, “Natyagriham” featured Murali in various stage plays including “Lanka Laskhmi,” for which Murali was bestowed with critical acclamation. Murali has also worked in the theater works of G. Sankara Pillai. Besides cinema, Murali is also an author who has written five books, most of which are critically acclaimed. Murali was presented with a Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award for his “Abhinetavum Asante Kavithayum.” In his career, Murali has pocketed 4 “Kerala State Best Actor Awards,” 2 “Second Best Actor Awards,” a Filmfare Award, a Kerala State TV Award, and various other honors.
