After finishing his schooling, he studied civil engineering and pursued architecture as a profession for a few years. Post working as an architect, he worked in the irrigation department in Kerala for a year. Later he went to America, in the year 1984 along with his family and lived for almost twenty years in San Francisco Bay. He was running a health care business unit in the USA, along with his brother Babu Antony, before entering the film industry. This multifaceted Keralite has been passionate about acting right from his college days and even after settling down in the USA. In the US, he was an active member of the drama clubs and worked hard to improve his skills. His debut theater ventures were the plays, Doctor Daivasahayam and Idachakkaplamood Police Station, which he had put up for the Malayali Association of North California (MANCA) in America. Thampy did the role of a doctor in this award-winning film which is about the hurdles faced by a physician when he travels from abroad to India. The flick was not a box office grosser but won high acclamation from several critics. Thekkek received the Best Actor Award at the prestigious Honolulu Film Festival. He said in an interview that it was an honor to him for being the first Indian to bag this award under the best actor category. The movie was filmed in both America and India. The movie also won two additional awards for the best screenplay and the best feature film at the New York International Film Festival. It was also screened in four theatres of New York City and received wide appreciation. Before acting in the lead role in this flick, he had done a few supporting roles such as the role of Zafar Ali in the movie Arabia that released in the year 1995. This flick had Antony’s brother Babu as the main lead and technically this is Thampy’s debut movie. Antony has done many character roles in several movies such as Janaki (2009), Ivan Megharoopan (2012), Kalimannu (2013), ABCD- American Born Confused Desi (2013) and so on. The flick Cash was his first Hollywood film, in the year 2010, in which he played the character of Bahadurjit Tejeenderpeet Singh.
