She was born in Perumbavoor as a daughter of famous classical dancer Smt. Kalamandalam Sumathy. At a very young age, Asha was bought into the field of classical dance by her parents. She got trained in all forms of classical dance including: Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam as well. In college days, Asha always used to get prizes for her performances on classical dance. In 1992, she got first prize in All India Dance Fete held in Benares. She is married to Sarath a business entrepreneur in Dubai.

'Kumkumapoovu' became one of the most highly acclaimed serial that aired by Asianet in recent times.

Asha Sarath is a trained classical dancer turned actress who mostly acts in Malayalam movies. Asha Sarath was born on November 15, 1976 at Perumbavoor, Ernakulam, Kerala, India to the Keralite parents V.S.Krishnan Kutty Nair and Kalamadalam Sumathy. Asha Sarath’s mother is a renowned classical dancer and she is the youngest sibling to two elder brothers Balagopal and Late Venugopal. Asha Sarath started her training in classical dances from her mother at a very tender age. Asha is a trained Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi. She, for the first time, came into the limelight in the year 1992 when she won All India Dance Fete held in Banaras. After winning the contest, acting offers in films and television serials came pouring in for Asha; but she choose to be selective and decided to appear in Malayalam TV serials and tele-films . Asha became famous by acting in the Malayalam tele-film Nizhalum Nilavum Parayunnathu, she played the role of Parvathy in this tele-film and it fetched her State Film Award. Another notable role in Malayalam serial/tele-film which fetched her another state film award is for the role of Jayanthi in the serial Kumkumapoovu.
