O.V Usha was born in 1948. She is a very popular Malayalam novel Writer and Poet. She has written a lot of poems, short stories and novel as well. She has written up to four volumes of poems. People love her writings very much as they have a depth and a lot of good things to learn. She also writes articles for many different journals. She has also worked in the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam as the Publications Director.

Usha belongs to a very small village in Kerala. Her father served the country as a Policeman and her brother is also an amazing cartoonist and novelist. Her brother’s name is O.V Vijayan. Usha liked Malayalam literature when she was a kid and her interest in literature developed because of her mother. She started writing at a very small age when she was 13; she started expressing her views through poems. She used to write weekly for the ‘Children’s Corner’ of Matrubhumi, a Malayalam weekly newspaper. She wrote for Matrubhumi till 1973 regularly and the audience especially children liked her poems very much.

She shifted to Delhi after completing her schooling because her brother wanted to stay in Delhi. Usha completed her Post Graduation from the Delhi University in English Literature. When she completed her studies from Delhi University, she began her career as a trainee in the editorial. After completing her training, she became Editor-In-Chief in a Publishing house. She has written the very popular short film ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ which became very famous and later turned into a film as well. In the film ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ she wrote the lyrics of a song named Aaruge Manasile Gaanamayi njan, the singer of this song is P. Leela. She was the only women lyricist at that time.

In the year 1973 she stopped writing and she did not write anything for next ten years. In the year 1982, she began writing again and started contributing regularly. She has written many poems but did not publish every poem publish as a book. She also wrote a novel named Shahid Naama and this got published in the year 2001. She was the part of the panel of judges of the Kerala State Film Awards which held in the year 2008. Some of her popular works are Snehageethangal; this is a very popular poetry, Dhyaanam; this is also poetry, Nilam Thodaa Mannu; this is a very popular short story written by her. She is the winner of the Kerala State Film Award for the film Mazha in the category Best Lyrics in the year 2002.
