Sumati Gupte was an Indian actress who had several Hindi and Marathi films to her credit. Sumati was born in a small town in Maharashtra known as Wai. Later she went on to live in Baroda where she completed her graduation and developed an interest in acting. She acted in many Marathi films including Sant Ghyaneshwar (1940) and Sunbhai (1942). Her Bollywood career included famous movies like Humara Sansaar (1945), Mausi (1958), Waqt (1965), Sajjo Rani (1976), Aadmi Sadak Ka (1977), and Phansi Ka Phanda (1990).

She was also a part in some Marathi plays like Udyacha Sansar and Vikarvilasit. She married director Vasant Jogerkar and became Sumati Gupte Jogerkar. She along with her husband started a production house called ‘Mera Pictures' and produced some renowned movies under the banner. Sumati was awarded the prestigious Rangsarang’s Dadasaheb Phalke award among the many other awards she received during her lifetime. She died on October 31, 2009, at the age of 90.
