Vasant Abaji Dahake

Vasant Abaji Dahake, born on 30 March 1942. He is an Indian poet, short story writer, artist, novelist, short fiction writer, and critic. He writes mainly in the Marathi language. His writing shows the influence of existentialist writers like Kafka. Also, his poetry is often dark and provoking. Vasant Abaji Dahake is from Amaravati district in Maharashtra. He is married to Prabha Ganorkar. They both have two kids. Prabha Ganorkar is also a writer who belongs to Amaravati. She has been writing and translating for the past two decades. 

Vasant Abaji Dahake’s first poem collection, Yogabhrashta [1972], instantly established him as a successor in Marathi literature. Due to the translation, the poem collection is accessible to many readers. This poetry speaks about the terror of being caged in our separate solitudes under the terrifying empty sky. 

Vasant Abaji Dahake won the Sahitya Akademi award in 2009 for his poem collection Chitralipi. The poem collection Chitralipi is translated and named Hieroglyphs. In 2014, he received the Vinda Karandikar Lifetime Achievement Award from the government of Maharashtra. He was associated with the Little Magazine Movement, Marathi, during the mid-1950s and 1960s. Vasant Abaji Dahake was the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan held in 2012 in Chandrapur.   

Vasant Abaji Dahake wrote notable poem collections like Yogabhrashta in 1872, Chitralipi, Shubha-Wartaman in 1987, and Shunah-Shepa in 1996. He wrote the fiction Adholoka in 1975 and Pratibaddha Ani Martya in 1981. His literary criticism and essays include Yatra Antaryatra in 1999, Kavita Mhanje Kay? in 1991, Samakaleen Sahitya in 1992, and Kavitevishayi in 1999. His other work includes Nivadak Sadanand Rege in 1996, Shaleya Marathi Shabdakosh in 1997, Sankshipta Marathi Vangmayakosh in 1998, and Kavita Visavya Shatakachi in 2000.
