Nepali Director Gyanendra Deuja

Gyanendra Bahadur Deuja is a film director and screenwriter from Nepal, who was born on 5 May 1967 in Kapan (Nepal). His parents are Dev Bahadur Deuja (father) and Late Kanchhi Deuja (mother). He is the youngest son of his parents and has a brother and two sisters. Gyanendra attended Pashupati School (Chabahil), Nepal Commerce Campus (Minbhawan), and Tribhuvan University. Rosani Adhikari Deuja is his wife and they have a son- Sulav Pratik Deuja, and a daughter- Samikshya Deuja.

Gyanendra has been the Deputy Director of Nepal Rastra Bank since 1988. He worked at Aarohan Theater during his college years and then did minor work as a production assistant for Nepali dramas. Gyanendra Deuja has worked as a chief assistant director for the television dramas- Dushman, Sparsh, Aama, etc., and feature films- Bandhan, Tuhuro, and Aama with a senior film director Resh Raj Acharya who mentored him.

The film Rakshak (1997) marked his debut as a film director. The underwater scenes in the film created a history in Nepali cinema. His other film Muna Madan entered the 76thOscar Awards 2003 in the category of Best Foreign Language Film, 76th Academy Awards 2004 and was screened at the Palm Springs Festival as well. Gyanendra has directed several films including- Gorkhali (1999), Daagbatti (2000), Kurukshetra (2004), Barmala (2006), Lavkush (2006), Hami Taxi Driver (2007), Dewar Babu (2008), Rana Sangram (2009), Hifajat (2010), Khusi (2010), Chhabilal Kanjus Chaina (2011), and Buddha Born in Nepal (2013-16).

Some of his television works include- Shayogi, Golmaal, Asal Upaya, Kamaiya etc. Gyanendra Deuja has won several awards for his work- the Prakash Thapa Memorial Award for Most Successful Director of the Year (movie- Dewar Babu), and the KTV Film Award 2008 for Best Director (movie- Dewar Babu). He has been nominated for the 5th NEFTA TTV Award in the Best Director category (movie- Rana Sangram) and the Samjhana Digital Award 2010 in the Best Director category (movie- Hifajat).
