Surinder Kaur is the Nightingale of Punjab. She is a Singer. She also writes songs. She is known for her folk songs and she has been noted for popularizing the Punjabi folk songs and for being a pioneer in the genre. She has also sung in many Bollywood movies. She is a recipient of the Doordarshan National Awards in the year 2006. She was born on 25th November in 1929 in Lahore. She has been contributing to the music industry for more than six decades. Her sister and her eldest are also famous singers. Her debut performance happened in the year of 1943.

Her birth place Lahore was part of British India during her days and after India – Pakistan Partition her family moved to India, and herself and her sister became a known duo in Indian Industry. With her husband’s immense support she became a famous Indian Bollywood singer. She has performed in many parts of the world and has sung over 25000 songs. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2006 for her contribution to the Music world. She succumbed to illness in the year 2006. Hearing her demise new, then Prime Minister of India, Dr, expressed his deep condolence. Writer Nirupama Dutt has written a book on her titled “Surinder Kaur: A life well songs”, this book has been written after a series of interview with the legendary singer.
