Wilson Gunaratne was born on 9 March 1949. Gunaratne is a Sri Lankan film, stage, and television actor and comedian. He is best known for his role as 'Kodithuwakku' in the television comedy 'Nonavaruni Mahathvaruni' and the stage drama 'Charitha Atak.' It is the only play in Sri Lanka where one actor plays eight different characters with different voices. Under his direction, Gunaratne played a small role in his film. The play marked a turning point in his acting career. He later appeared in two Vithanage plays 'Sakala Jana' and 'Muhuṇu Dekak.' He began working in television drama under the direction of former parliamentary interpreter and actor Alfred Perera. Alfred worked in China and Philippine radio. Gunaratne gained much popularity for his portrayal of 'Nonavarun Mahathvarun Kodithuwakku' in the television series. Meanwhile, he acted in Sathpura Wasiyo as 'Pappa' made his signature dramatic aura. He also produced a political comedy stage drama called 'Charitha Hathak' after it revamped as 'Charitha Atak.' Since opening, Charitha Hathak has completed 37 shows in eight months. In 1998, he made his directorial debut with 'Kodivinaya' a political satire on ITN television.
