Keerthana Parthiban was born on 17th August 1992 to famous Tamil actors Seetha and R. Parthiban. She is famous for her lead role in the critically acclaimed Maniratnam film Kannathil Muthamittal, which came out in 2002. Keerthana’s parents got a divorce back in 2001. She has one sister, P.S. Abhinaya and one adopted brother, P.S. Raakhi.

Kannathil Muthamittal is a story of a child born to two Sri Lankans who was then adopted by an Indian family and who desires to get connected with her biological mother during the Sri Lankan civil war. Keerthana won the National Award for “Best Child Artist” in 2003, and she was praised worldwide for his stellar performance. She worked along with Madhavan, Simran, J.D. Chakravarthy and Nandita Das in the movie. In 2002, she also won the Best Child Artist Award under Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.

During one of her interviews, she said that her father, R. Parthiban loved her character, Sundari in KannathilMuthamittal and often calls her by the name of Sundari. Fond of her dad’s poems, she is often heard praising his creativity. She has done a music course in A.R. Rahman’s music school. She says that it is something her dad enjoys but couldn’t do. So he is proud of her choices. She is a complete daddy’s girl and says that he has supported her in everything; all the small and major decisions she has taken.

Keerthana’s father, R. Parthiban says that he is really happy to see how her popularity is growing. At 23, he calls her a very smart and intelligent lady.

As stated by her father in an interview, Keerthana is not very interested in acting. When offered a film by Mani Ratnam, she instead asked him if she could be the assistant director. Currently, Keerthana is said to assist Mani Ratnam for his bilingual project. Apparently, she is ready to start directing sooner, and there are already 3-4 producers waiting in line for that.
