‘Chelladurai’ was a famous Tamil comedy actor. He is best known among the masses for his role as the owner of Prabha wine shop in a comedy, along with actor, Vadivelu.
K. Bhagyaraj’s, Thooral Ninnu Pochu, was the first movie in which Chelladurai played a role. Since then, he has acted in more than 350 Tamil films. He has played small comical roles in most of these movies. Some successful movies in which Chelladurai acted are ‘

The Legend of Bhagat Singh in 2002. He has worked on many movies along with former leading Tamil comedians like Vivek and Vadivelu. He achieved fame and popularity among the Tamil cinema audience due to his role as ‘Prabha wine shop owner’, along with comedian Vadivelu, in a Tamil comedy clip. In this comedy clip, Vadivelu gets accidentally detained in a wine shop that is closed. Thus, the story progresses as he calls Chelladurai to tell him to open the store for him to get out.
Though he has acted in more than 350 Tamil movies, he was never known to live luxuriously. During the end of his tenure of 30 years, he started to decrease the number of films he acted in.
He died on 7th February, 2015, due to kidney failure. He was 74 years old when he breathed his last breath. His kidney problem was long prevailing. He had been admitted to a private hospital in Kilpauk due to this disease, and also suffered from high blood pressure. The hospital itself was his last resting place. His cremation took place in an area called Vadapalani. He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
Even after his death, more than a year ago, he is still remembered for his appreciation-worthy role in Tamil cinema.
