Born on 3 July 1960, Bharathwaj is a Tamil film composer, music director, and singer. He was born in Ravanasamuthram, Tirunelveli and was raised in Delhi. His father was a government official, and his origins are of Tamil Brahmins. Bharathwaj graduated as a Chartered Accountant and then entered the music industry. He has been trained in various styles of music including Hindustani, Carnatic and Western music.
Bharathwaj made debut as a composer with the Telugu film “Sogasu Chooda Tarama” in 1995. Bharathwaj started out his compositions with director Saran with the wonderful song ‘Unnai Paartha Pinbu Naan’ from the movie, “Kaadhal Mannan” in 1998. Most of his notable compositions are with Saran, and few were with other directors including Cheran and Sasi. Bharathwaj has composed music for over 50 films in Tamil. His latest composition “
Aayirathil Iruvar” is still under filming. He also composed music for radio programmes such as All India Radio and DD at a young age.
Bharathwaj received two Filmfare Awards for Best Music Director for his compositions in the film Autograph and Gemini. He also received the Kalaimamani Award from the Tamil Nadu Government in the year 2008.
