Kothanda Ramaiah

Kothanda Ramaiah is better known as Keyaar in the Tamil movie industry. He is a producer, director, exhibitor, distributor and actor. He was born on 1^st January 1953 in Chennai. He went to Adyar Film Institute and learned film processing in 1972 - 1975. After completing his graduation, he joined Doordarshan Kendra and worked as a technician for three years. He made his debut as a director in Shishirathil Oru Vasantham, a Malayalam movie. He was also the producer for the film. But, due to some issues, he couldn’t release the film and Suguna Screens released the film in 1980. Later, he turned into a distributor and worked in many areas in Tamilnadu, Pondicherry and Andhra Pradesh. Vanaja Girija, Mayabazar, Irattai Roja, Enakkoru Magan Pirappan, Alexander, Thaali Pudhusu, Kavalai Padathe Sagodhara, Dharma, Kumbakonam Gopalu, Suyamvaram, Kadhal Rojave and Dancer. His latest directorial venture, Kutty, garnered a lot of appreciation. The film won the National Award and three state awards. Besides this, it got an award at the Canadian Film Festival. Kutty has Kutty as the hero, who is a physically challenged dancer. Keyaar was inspired by Kutty’s dance in a concert and booked him to play the lead role in his film. After this film in 2005, Keyaar didn’t direct any films. Besides being an actor, director and producer, Keyaar exhibited films in Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai from 1984 to 1993. Keyaar has authored a book, Idhuthaan Cinema and published it in 2003. He was also the Vice President of Radaan Media Works of Radhika Sarathkumar.

Keyaar had been the President of the Tamil Film Producers Council. He was also the President of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce. He had been the Vice President of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce for some years. He was the Chair Person of the National Award Selection Committee for Wholesome Entertainment. He was the General Secretary of the South Indian Film and TV Directors Association. He founded the Tamil Film Chamber of Commerce in 1987 and had been the President till 1991. He founded Tamil Film Producers' Welfare Trust in 1994 and is the trustee.
