Pandian is a very well-known figure in the Tamil film industry. Beginning his acting career in 1986, he gained acclaim with the much praised ‘Oomai Vizhigal’. After making a significant mark as an actor, Pandian became a chief producer for Ayngaran International, a film production, and distribution company. Since 1988, Pandian has produced movies such as Devan, Vikadan, Villu, Aegan and many more. He has also done a bit of dubbing in a few notable Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam films, dubbing the dialogues in Tamil. | Born in Palayamkottai on 13th July 1958, his father, D.P Chellaiah, used to occupy the post of a lieutenant-colonel. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Madras University, Chennai.
After establishing himself in the film industry by acting, directing and producing several movies, he forayed into political pastures by joining the DMDK (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam) and contesting in the 2011 Tamil Nadu legislative assembly elections from Peruvarani to consequently win and become an MLA.
It is said that he supports LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam). Despite his political commitments, Pandian continues to be a part of the film fraternity and still produces movies, with ‘Savaale Samali’ being the latest one. He’s known to be an avid enthusiast of billiards and snooker and currently holds the post of the president in the Tamil Nadu Billiards and Snooker Association and is also the vice-president of All India Billiards and Snooker Association. Pandian is married to Vijaya Pandian and has three daughters: Kavitha, Kirana and Keerthi. He resides in Mylapore, Chennai. Pandian is highly regarded in both politics and films and has been successful in whatever he decided to take up throughout his lifetime.
Be it acting or directing and producing movies to taking up the mantle of his party’s political prospects in Peruvarani, he has being exemplary in them all and doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon.
