Charle was born in Kovilpatti, Tamil Nadu, India and his real name was Manohar Velmurugan Thangasamy. He is an Indian actor who has worked in almost 600 Tamil movies. Charle finished his graduation in chemistry from G. V. N. College situated in Kovilpatti, Tamil Nadu. From his college days, he had the habit to mimic and imitate the Tamil actors like Sivaji, Nagesh. He was a stage artist and a complete entertainer from his college times. He first worked as a Staff Artist actor in the song and drama division of the Information and Broadcasting ministry and performed in around 10000 dramas. He debuted in the movie "Poikal Kuthirai" in 1982.
The movie was directed by PadmaSri Dr. K. Balachandar who also changed his name to Charle. He is a versatile actor and worked in Telugu and Tamil films as a comedian and character roles. He has portrayed important roles in several movies including movies made by National Film Development Corporation of India. His first two films were poor at the box office. But the directors motivated him, and his next movie "Poovilangu" was a hit. He is talented even with anchoring, miming and mono acting. He even did shows in several countries all over the world. He did his Master of Arts degree from Madurai Kamaraj University and M. Phil from Karaikudi Alagappa University.
His dissertation for M.Phil was titled, "Contributions of Comedians in the growth of Tamil cinema". He received many awards in the categories of best comedian and character artist from Tamil Nadu State Government, Bharath Social & Cultural Academy, Chennai and Kalaimamani Awards. Even now he believes that he has much more to achieve and a lot more to work.
