Navin Iyer was born on 3rd January 1981 in Chennai. He is a playback singer, sound composer, and a music director. Navin has predominantly scored music for Tamil and Malayalam films. At the age of around three, he started learning Carnatic music.

He had his flute arangetram in his teens. Soon after school, ‘Saarang’ discovered him, where he did hat-trick as best instrumentalist while doing engineering. After that, he turned down a job at Infosys to work with the legendary composer A.R.Rahma. He prefers ‘Arrora’ as his stage name. However, he later returned to his original name. He has worked as a flute player before working as a music composer.

He became one of India’s most in-demand flutist. He has done over 500 recordings for over 500 movies in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, and Telugu. Though recording lasts for just a few minutes, but for ‘AkkamPakkam’ from Kireedam, it took him four hours. His first big shot was with the legend A.R.Rahman for movie ‘ Rang De Basanti’ -his flute comes in the background score after Madhavan’s character dies.

After that, he had played flute for someA.R.Rahman projects which also includes the movie, Slumdog Millionaire. He sometimes travels for recording the tracks. Music directors like Vishal-Shekhar, once traveled down to Chennai to record the track, of the song ‘Aakho Mei Teri’ from ‘ Om Shanti Om,’ just because they liked Navin’s idea and style.

Navin likes to keep himself busy all the day. He goes to the gym in the morning and after that, plans all the meetings projects of the day. At his studio, he has a variety of flutes like a flute made of glass, another one made of clay, another one made of marble, and a saxophone of bamboo. Navin Iyer has done collaborations with Bombay Jayashri, Kadri Gopalnath, and T.V. Gopalakrishnan.

On another side, he had done collaborations with U.K. percussionist James Asher, Earthsync and numerous DJs. Sometimes, Navin ends up recording seven cine in a day. The National Award winning song ‘Ore Kandal,’ was sung by him, though his name was not spelled correctly on the CD cover. On visiting a new country, the first thing he does is buying a flute.

He has over a hundred varieties of them. He has worked in films like Naalu Peruku Nalladhuna EdhuvumThappilla, Nibunan, VilAmbu, OruNaalIravil, Kalyana Samayal Saadham, Peruchazhi, Vismaya, and many more.
