Kalidasan

Late Kavignar Kalidasan was born in 1948 in Thanjavur. He was a Tamil lyricist and poet. He is married to Bhuvaneshwari and has a son named Balasubramaniam. He died in the year 2016 at the age of 68. Kavignar Kalidasan was a Veteran Tamil lyricist famous for creating the lyrics for the commercially successful film Sattam En Kaiyil starring Kamal Hassan. This motion picture was a huge success that brought Kavignar Kalidasan into the spotlight and his work was highly praised. Kavignar Kalidasan later composed lyrics for a film starring Kollywood superstar Rajinikanth. Kavignar Kalidasan’s first screen name was Thiruppathooran. Lyricist Kavignar Kalidasan’s career started in the year 1970 when he created lyrics for Thalattu.

Subsequently, Kavignar Kalidasan went on to compose wordings for the movie, which has Rajinikanth in the lead role – Arunachalam. One particular song – Thalaimagne Kalangathey from Arunachalam is one of the best songs in Kavignar Kalidasan’s career. Following his career-best time, Kavignar Kalidasan continued with his own name Kalidas instead of the screen name Thiruppathooran (credited Kavignar Kalidasan in the film Thalattu). Succeeding this film, he composed lyrics for Madhumati in 1993 and Sandhippoma in 1999 starring Suriya. Recent songs by Kavignar Kalidasan include Aatha Un Kovililae, Neelakuilay, and Thanni Kudam. After his debut as Thiruppathooran, Kalidasan mostly collaborated with music director Deva.

Though the results of the films were not satisfactory, Kalidasan earned fame as a great lyricist. Kavignar Kalidasan also worked with Ilayaraja for the movie Therkku Theru Matchan in the year 1992. Other works of Kavignar Kalidasan include Thanni Kudam, Kanna Karisal, and Pallikudam Pogamale. After giving many memorable and beautiful songs to Kollywood Film Industry, Kavignar Kalidasan stopped penning down the lyrics due to adverse health conditions. He had a neurological disorder and breathed his last on May 29, 2016, at the age of 68, at a private hospital while receiving treatment for his ailment. Kavignar Kalidasan’s son Balasubramaniam performed Kalidasan’s last rites in his house at Vannarapet, Chennai. The contribution of Kavignar Kalidasan towards the Kollywood music industry is impeccable and unforgettable. Lyricist Kavignar Kalidasan lives on for his subtle ways of writing. Kavignar Kalidasan is one gem of a lyricist whom the Kollywood fraternity deeply mourns.
