Tamil Politician Pon Radhakrishnan

Pon Radhakrishnan, born on 1st March 1952 is an Indian politician associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He even served as a Lawyer, social activist and has worked hard for the betterment and upliftment of the people of Tamil Nadu. He is currently working as Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping in Shri “Narendra Modi's” cabinet. He has served as the minister of state for Youth Affairs. In the Third Vajpayee Ministry, he was appointed as the Minister Of State for Youth Affairs and even served as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation. He is elected from the region of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu to the Lok Sabha.

Radhakrishnan was born in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district. His parents were Thanga Kani and Ponniah Ayyappan. He belonged to a very respected and wealthy family from the Alathankarai village. He did his schooling from D.V.D.H. School in Nagercoil. His graduation was done from VHNSN College of Virudhu Nagar in Arts. Later, he went to Madras Law College in Chennai to pursue and complete his Law degree.

During 1990s, he got interest in politics and got interested to a rightist group named Hindu Munnani and started working at a lower level for the betterment. He first contested the elections for parliament in 1999 as a candidate representing BJP from the Nagercoil village and won the election with flying colors. He served the position for years from September 30th, 2000, to January 29th, 2003. In due course, Radhakrishnan was even appointed as the Minister of State for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation for the tenure of eight months which were from January 30, 2003, to September 7, 2003. He has even been appointed the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways in the same year after finishing his tenure as the Monster for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation.

In his career span, he has even received failure. In his political career, he lost elections for two times. First was in the year 2004, and the second time he lost was in 2009. Eventually, he again gained the trust of the people and was elected by the people and won the Kanyakumari seat in the Lok Sabha election of 2014. Radhakrishnan won by defeating his contender with more than one lakh votes in the General Elections.

He has worked a lot for the betterment of the people and for the upliftment of Tamil Nadu. His some major contribution include Sethusamudram ship channel project. The project was based on for the improvement of the coastal region of Cargo in India and worked for the development of the Coastal Economic Zones (CEZ) in the country.
