Kalpathi S. Aghoram is a renowned producer of Tamil and Telugu films. He along with his two brothers, Kalpathi S. Ganesh and Kalpathi S. Suresh, owns a Chennai-based private equity and entertainment interest group named Kalpathi Group. In this group, Kalpathi S. Aghoram holds the position of Vice- Chairman with his brother Kalpathi S. Suresh being the Chairman of the same. The Kalpathi group has following extensions: 1. Kalpathi Investments- It is the private equity arm of the group, 2. AGS Entertainment- This is the film production and distribution arm of the group established in the year 2006 and 3. AGS Cinemas- This is the exhibition arm of the Kalpathi Group with having nine screens in Chennai and its suburbs. Archana Kalpathi, daughter of Kalpathi S. Aghoram, is the present CEO and director of the AGS Cinemas, which is setting up multiplexes in Chennai. Kalpathi S. Aghoram started his career as a producer in the year 2006 with the Tamil movie Thiruttu Payale. After Thiruttu Payale, he has produced: Santosh Subramaniam in 2008; Maasilamani in 2009; Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam, Madrasapattinam and Bale Pandiya in 2010; Yuddham Sei, Engeyum Kadhyal, Avan Ivan and Vellore Maavattam in 2011; The Alternate (Maattran/ Brothers) in 2012;
Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham in 2013; Tenaliraman and
Irumbu Kuthirai in 2014; Anegan (Anekudu),
Vai Raja Vai and
Thani Oruvan in 2015.
All these films were produced and distributed under the title of AGS Entertainment Company. Post the success of Thani Oruvan in 2015, the director,
Mohan Raja, producers of AGS Entertainment -Kalpathi S. Aghoram, Kalpathi S. Ganesh and Kalpathi S. Suresh organized an "annadhanam" in which they served food to more than 1500 people of Chennai in and around the T Nagar. The actors of the movie along with the music director, cinematographer and others were present at the venue. In the same year, rumors were that AGS Entertainment is banned by the Tamil Film Producer's Council (TFPC) for giving excessive advertisements for the release of Thani Oruvan, but there came no official statement about the imposition of such ban. Kalpathi S. Aghoram currently is the Vice-President of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. He was elected unanimously at the 85th AGM (Annual General Meeting) of the association which was held on 12th June 2015. Also worth mentioning is that this is his sixth consecutive term in the same designation i.e. being the Vice-President of TNCA. He was also nominated as the member of the Marketing Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2013.
