V Swaminathan is a Tamil producer who grew up in the Tamil film industry alongside G Venugopal and K. Muralitharan. One can say Sundar C, Fazil and Venkatesh were the directors who brought Swaminathan into filmmaking.

It was Sundar C who has teamed up with trio producers and encouraged them. Veluchami (1995) was the first film which was written and directed by Arul. It marked the advent of three producers K. Muralidharan, V. Swaminathan and G. Venugopal. 'Dharma Chakkaram' (1997) was the next venture of the trio producers which was directed by K S Ravikumar.

It was since 1995, Sundar C started working as director and writer in Tamil movies. He has been a force to reckon with super hit movies like 'Arunachalam' and 'Mettukudi'.

It was in 1999, Sundar C had the association with them for the first film ‘Unakkaga Ellam Unakkaga' which was a blockbuster movie with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. It had Karthik, Rambha in lead roles. Sunda C ‘s second project with Swaminathan was ‘Ullam Kollai Poguthae' that had Prabhu Deva, Zaveri in lead roles.

Karthik Raja composed the music. Again, it was in 2001, Sundar C was approached for 'Ullam Kollai Poguthae' by the trio producers K. Muralitharan, V. Swaminathan and G Venugopal and repeated the same feat for ‘Anbe Sivam'.

It was only in 2003 while directing a movie named 'Anbe Sivam,' Sundar C last opted for producers like V Swaminathan, who was a co-producer of the movie along with Sundar C, K. Muralitharan, G Venugopal! The producer trio had handled the most dismal project which was 'Bagavathi' (2002) and it featured Vijay in lead role.

But it was 'Anbe Sivam' (2003) that garnered more success in the point of filmmaking. While 'Bagavathi' was directed by A Venkatesh, 'Anbe Sivam' was directed by Sundar C. The film 'Anbe Sivam' featured actor Kamal Haasan and R Madhavan in lead roles. Kamal Haasan wrote the script. When the film was released, it did not meet with success at the box office as expected.

The film received acceptance by critics, and despite its failure, the film received many re-runs on TV networks. Now the film is considered a classic and a cult film. It won several awards at the state level. 'Bagavathi' had released on Diwali but could not compete with Ajith and Vijaykanth's movies like 'Villain' and 'Ramanaa.’ 'Bagavathi' and thus was an average success at the box office. ''Bagavathi' was produced by K. Muralidharan, V. Swaminathan and G. Venugopal – all these three producers made ‘Anbe Sivam’ in 2003 and 'Oru Naal Oru Kanavu’ in 2005.

Later, Reemma Sen acted in this movie. It was dubbed into Hindi and Telugu with the same name. Deva composed the music. After making films with directors like Sundar C and A Venkatesh, in the year 2005, the three producers - K. Muralidharan, V. Swaminathan and G. Venugopal approached Fazil to direct a movie 'Oru Naal Oru Kanavu' which had music by Ilaiyaraaja.

In 2009, the trio producers - K Muralidharan, V Swaminathan and G Venugopal approached the screenplay writer and director Selvaraghavan to direct a movie titled 'Pudhupettai'.

Yuvan Shankar Raja's music got universal critical acclaim which gave a huge hype to the movie. The film is considered a cult classic gangster movie even today for narration.

The film got the best opening for a Selvaraghan movie, but the collection dropped in coming weeks. It was an average success at the box office. The film starred Dhanush, Sneha and Sonia Agarwal in lead roles. Other movies he produced was 'Kangalal Kaidhu Sei' (2004), ‘Daas’(2005) respectively.

'Kangalal Kaidhu Sei’ was directed by Bharathiraja which had music by A R Rahman. The film was produced by V.Swaminatahan, and K. Muralitharan and it was a box office failure. Due to the Coronavirus lockdown, the film production works were not carried out. So, Swaminathan had been spending his time with his family. All of a sudden, Swaminathan, felt some uneasiness in his health and was rushed to the hospital. He was tested COVID-19 positive in the first week of August 2020. He had been getting treatment for the same at a private hospital in Chennai. His body could not recuperate to medicines and the producer breathed his last on 10th August 2020. It was a shock to the entire film fraternity.
