Chitralaya Gopu was born on 30th June 1931. He is a Director by profession and has directed many Tamil movies. He is also a screenwriter and wrote about 60 films. He received his primary education from St. Josephs in Chengalpattu. His birth name is Sadagopan, and he preferred writing comedy and humorous drama and also used to act in those. One of his childhood friends, "C.V. Sridhar" was his batch mate in his school, and he also wrote many theatre plays and he used to act as the male lead in those scripts. Both of them carried each other all the way through success and failures and never left each other, even when Sridhar got a chance to direct his debut picture, he asked Sadagopan to work on the comic part of the script.

Chitralaya made his debut with a Sridhar debut directorial venture, “Kalyana Parisu” which is about two college friends, Baskar, and Vasanthi. A misunderstanding is created between them which leads to Baskar’s expel from the college. Vasanthi realizes her mistake and apologizes to him. Later, they fell in love. Baskar starts to live in Vasanthi’s house, and this leads to Vasanthi’s sister falling for Baskar, complications arise and Vasanthi sacrifices her love so that her sister could marry him. They both get married and move to Coimbatore. Shortly, Vasanthi’s mother falls sick and dies. Vasanthi moves to Coimbatore along with her sister and Baskar.

Geeta soon realizes Baskar and Vasanthi past love and accuses them of having an affair. Geeta falls sick and also gets pregnant in the process, and she dies after delivering her son and asks Baskar to promise her that he will find Vasanthi and get married as soon as possible. Baskar tries to find her but fails and discovers that she is getting married. Baskar reaches the place but finds her already married and hands over his son as her gift to keep his wife’s promise. Soon after the success of the movie, Chitralaya decided to open a production house and named it “Chitralaya Pictures” and from then he was known as “Chitralaya Gopu.”

His other works include Pyar Kiye Jaa, Ooty Varai Uravu, Shanti Nilayam, Athaiya Mamiya, Alankari, Vasanthi, Dilli Babu, Rasi Nalla Rasi Story Coming Soon >> Read More... , Veettuku Veedu, Kalamadi Kalam, Kodimalar, etc. He received many nominations and awards for his work. His last film, “Ulagam Pirandhadhu Enakkaga” was released in 1990. He is married to Kamala and worked in the industry for more than 30 years, his works are worth watching and one can learn a lot from that.
