His mother died when he was just five, and his father died due to a heart attack in 1989. Since he lost his parents at such a young age, he and his sisters had to work to support their education. Raja has one elder sister, Vijaya, and a younger sister, Padmini.

He is married to Amrita Vincent (2014). Raja made his debut with ‘Vechivunta’ (2001), a Telugu film. Before starting his career in movies, he did eighteen commercials in Mumbai. Though his opening films did not do well at the box office, his performances were much appreciated.
