RJ Smiley Swathi

Who knew a fat and plumpy girl could turn into a famous radio jockey! Smiley Swathi is a RJ at the Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM. Going years back to her childhood, she had an elder brother and a sister. They all went to the same school. They were deeply attached to each other. Smiley remembers when she was in class three, she met her teacher and her brother in the corridor of the school. The teacher complained and spoke ill about her brother. She remarked that if he continues his mischiefs, she would have to punish her brother. Smiley got so angry at this statement that she started beating the teacher brutally. This incident showed the extent she loved her brother.

She was a fat child since always. She kept on running away from teachers, exams, studies, and games, for her entire childhood. Whenever she tried to play any game like kho-kho, kabaddi, or running, she always stood last, which she didn’t like. Her friends used to get annoyed at her, so they devised a way. They made her the captain of all games so that she doesn’t participate in any game. Instead, she just commands everyone to play.

Becoming a leader worked for her as a good escape from games. But there were no shortcuts in studies. She stood last in studies all through in her schooling years. It was just not her health that prevented her from playing, it was her fear. She thought that while playing, if she receives bruises or cuts, she would have to get injections. She was scared of needles and injections. Hence, she did not participate in any physical activity.

Though she did not have an interest in outdoor activities, she got a lot of excitement for indoor activities. She calls herself the queen of carom. She, along with her parents, brother, and sister, used to play carom daily, and she often won it. The prize for the winner used to be that the goodies made by her mother would be offered to the winner first, and then to everyone else.

It is rightly said, we do not understand the importance of any moment, till it becomes a memory. Her elder sister is married and lives in Pune, and her brother stays in a hostel. Therefore, she misses those days a lot. Now, this fat, little girl, Smiley, has turned into a successful radio jockey through her talent and hard work. Everyone adored her sessions and shows.
