His father’s name is Saraswathi Nageshwar Raju and he was a harmonist and a singer. Chalapathi Raju is also a singer. He learned singing from his father. His wife’s name is Rupavani.

When he was 6 years old, he used to watch dramas. In the year 1990, he came as a singer on Doordharshan channel and later on he became an announcer and after that he went for drama auditions and in drama auditions, he wrote dialogues by his own and he gave an audition with his own dialogues and he got selected and entered into dramas and then started acting in serials. He has 24 years of acting experience in his kitty. He is a good singer and while singing he can imitate different types of voices like Ghantasala Garu, S P Balasubrahmanyam Garu, and etc. He released few devotional albums like Lord Saibaba, and Lord Ayyappa’s albums. From childhood he used to imitate his father and other persons. His best friend is Gangadhar garu, he is also a singer and he encouraged him in everything.

He likes actors S.V. Rangarao garu and Gummadi Garu. He acted in many serials and now he is acting in Shikaram on ETV, pasupu kumkuma on Zee Telugu, and Akashamantha on Gemini TV. He also acted in many movies like Na Sami Ranga. He is also a dubbing artist.
