Naseem Begum was a popular playback singer, predominantly working in Pakistani films. She was born on February 24, 1936, in Amritsar, British India. She started singing at Radio Pakistan in her teenage years. She started her journey as a playback singer with the 1956 movie Guddi Gudda, whose music director was Ghulam Ahmed Chisti. In 1958, she was chosen by music composer Mian Sheharyar to sing the song Nainon mein jal bhar aayey for his film Begunah.

Aye Rah-e-Haq Ke Shaheedo, a patriotic song among many that she has given voice to, was composed by Mian Sheharyar and written by Mushir Kazmi for the Radio Pakistan recording in 1965. Her folk songs were equally popular too, some of which included Kala Doriya Kunde Naal Aryai Oye. For her impressive singing in the movies Shaam Dhale, Shaheed, Baji, and Lutera, she was honoured with the Nigar Award for the Best Female Playback Singer four times from 1960 to 1964. Begum passed away on September 29, 1971, in Lahore, Pakistan, due to pregnancy-related complications.
