TV shows become popular due to many reasons. Their theme and presentation are of course very important, but sometimes these serials depend greatly upon the popularity of their lead actors. On the other hand, many television actors gain their fame and fortune because of their TV shows. In this co-dependent relationship, it is very important that the best interests of the show and the actors remain aligned with each other. Saath Nibhaana Saathiya
Saathiya began in the year 2010 on Star Plus with
Giaa Manek playing the central character, Gopi. She was instantly loved by the viewers. However, after her participation in a dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, on a rival channel, Colors TV, she was sacked from the daily soap. The producers accused her of unprofessional behavior and failure of following their contract.
Devoleena Bhattacharjee was brought in to replace Giaa. Devoleena did a good job and managed to please the loyal audience of the show.
Qubool Hai began in 2012 on Zee TV. The main characters were played by
Karan Singh Grover,
Rishabh Sinha, and
Surbhi Jyoti. They had huge success in the roles. However, Rishabh was soon replaced, and
Vikrant Massey took up the role. A few months after that, Karan Singh Grover was replaced by
Raqesh Vashisth. There were rumors of their tantrums and irregular arrival on set. The show has seen several leaps and each time the male lead changed. Surbhi Jyoti stayed till the end of the serial, working opposite several male leads.
3. Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai!
This show on &TV is a popular comedy show with a unique theme. Each of the characters of this show gained recognition and approval from the audience. The character of Angoori Bhabi is perhaps the most loved among all. This role was originally played by
Shilpa Shinde. However, she stopped shooting for the show and accused the producer Binaifer Kohli of mental torture and unreasonable demands. The fate of the serial was at stake, and the producers asked Shilpa to resume shooting. Shilpa refused, dragging CINTAA into the matter and filing a case against the producers. The rest of the cast sided with the production house and Shilpa was replaced by
Shubhangi Atre Poorey, bringing an end to speculations about the show’s closure.
Balika Vadhu was a serial on Colors TV about child marriage and its consequences. It started with child actors in the lead roles. A very young
Avika Gor played the role of Anandi. When the show took a leap,
Pratyusha Banerjee played the role of grown-up Anandi. However, she left the show owing to health issues and refusal to shoot for long hours due to other commitments. As the show required full dedication from the lead actor,
Toral Rasputra was brought in as Anandi. After a rocky start, the audience slowly warmed up to the replacement and the show continued smoothly.
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi"
Kyunki reached the zenith of popularity with each character getting nationwide recognition. The lead roles were played by Smriti Irani and
Amar Upadhyay. Amar was replaced by
Ronit Roy as Mihir. The audience thought the replacement would ruin the show but Ronit Roy did a great job and kept the TRPs stable. For a little while, Smriti Irani left the show, and
Gautami Kapoor played the role of Tulsi. This happened due to a rift between Smriti and producer
Ekta Kapoor. However, Smriti returned to the show after their differences were sorted out.
Pavitra Rishta was a long-running show on Zee TV about the sacred bond of love between the lead characters, Manav and Archana. The role of Manav was played by
Sushant Singh Rajput and
Ankita Lokhande played the role of Archana. Their chemistry was excellent and the serial topped the TRP charts. However, when the serial took a leap, Sushant refused to play an older character. He left the show and went on to become a Bollywood actor.
Hiten Tejwani took up the role of Manav and did a good job.
Dill Mill Gayye
Dill Mill Gayye was a youth-based show on Star One about a team of doctors in a hospital named Sanjeevani. The lead roles of Armaan and Riddhima were initially played by Karan Singh Grover and
Shilpa Anand. Their chemistry was widely appreciated by the viewers. However, Shilpa left the show as she wanted to be a film actress.
Sukirti Kandpal played the new Riddhima but she failed to create the same magic. She was again replaced by actress
Jennifer Winget in the role of Riddhima. Jennifer essayed this role till the end of the show.
Kahiin to Hoga"
The popularity of Kahin Toh Hoga depended largely upon the chemistry between the lead actors,
Aamna Sharif and
Rajeev Khandelwal. When Rajeev left the show to pursue films, actor
Gurpreet Singh played the role of Sujal. However, the show was never the same again. It lost most of its popularity and ended two years later.
Kuch Toh Log Kahenge"
Kuch Toh Log Kahenge was a show on Sony Entertainment Television about the love between an older man and a young girl. The role of the elder doctor was played by
Mohnish Bahl. He was critically acclaimed for his role. Mohnish disappointed his fans when he left the show citing health issues. He was replaced by
Sharad Kelkar who also did a fine job in the role of Dr. Ashutosh Mathur.
Kasamh Se was a famous show on Zee TV, and its lead character was a girl named Bani. Newbie ‘
Prachi Desai’ played the role of Bani and turned into an audience favorite. Sadly, she had to leave the show to make her debut in Bollywood. The viewers were very sad to see Prachi go.
Gurdeep Kohli replaced Prachi and did a very good job. But the original Bani stayed in the minds of the audience.
