It is not the responsibility of the director alone to make a film a success; there are also other people who are involved in this mission. Here comes, the script writer’s role which is very important. Even though if the actors and actresses are renowned even though the film may fail due to poor script. So, scriptwriting has indeed found a commendable position in film making.
Most of the times, the director himself takes up the responsibility of script writing. For example K Balachander,
Kamal Haasan, R Parthiepan have ventured into script writing too and have even succeeded in that attempt. But again, being scriptwriters alone doesn’t prove to be financially rewarding, those who want to be scriptwriters, opt to handle direction.
'K. Balachander' has over 100 films to his credit as scriptwriter and director. His scripts are innovative, contemplative and bold. Kamal Haasan has worked on around 25 films as script writer. His combination with Crazy mohan was very much appreciated by the audience. Legend With regard to 'K Bhagyaraj', though he started his film career as an assistant director he came into limelight through his fresh scriptwriting skills. R Parthiepan, tasted success through the film Puthiya Paadhai, for which he even received National Award for script writing. He had also worked on the scripts of his films.
Subha (Suresh and Balakrishnan) have also scripted dialogues and screenplays for Kollywood movies. Ayan and Kana Kandaen are a couple of films in which these two joined hands with '
K V Anand' to write script. Sujatha had worked on dialogues and screenplays for several Tamil movies and was very successful in that attempt. He didn’t venture into direction. His association with
Mani Ratnam and Shankar reaped fruits.
Writing is an important domain of filmmaking. Nowadays the audience doesn’t settle down with mediocre scripts; they want something that is more innovative, realistic, contemporary and above all original. It’s high time that good scripts are written and reach the masses.
